El Grupo

Capilla Real de Madrid is a vocal and instrumental ensemble founded by Oscar Gershensohn in 1992 that has accomplished notable achievements within the field of early music using period instruments.

Its production and staging of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the 1995 Almagro Festival earned it the Ágora de la Crítica prize in the musical theatre category. To this have been added productions of Handel's Acis and Galatea Purcell's The Fairy Queen, Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Le Malade Imaginaire of Molière-Charpentier, and unforgettable performances of universally esteemed works by composers such as Monteverdi (The Vespers, Selva Morale e Spirituale and the Books of Madrigals), Purcell (Odes, Anthems), Handel (The Messiah, Four Coronation Anthems), Bach (St. John Passion, Mass in B minor, Oratorios, Cantatas), Mozart (Requiem), Haydn (The Creation) to name but some.

With regard to Spanish Baroque and the Siglo de Oro Capilla Real de Madrid has premiered quite a few previously mainly unpublished works, such as Farnace by Francisco Corselli in 2005. It has also recorded two compact discs of works by the maestri di cappella of the Monasterios de la Encarnación of Madrid and Guadalupe (Extremadura), has in turn has received invitations from different festivals and institutions such as the Festival of Religious Music in Cuenca (1997), Patrimonio Nacional (2000) and the Fundación Complutense-Auditorio Nacional (2002 and 2005).

Neither should one fail to mention its performances with the following entities: Madrid, Capital of Culture 1992, the Monumental Theatre, the National Auditorium, the Teatro Clásico of Mérida, the Almagro festival, the Príncipe de Asturias Foundation, The Festival of Sacred Art in Paris, the 2000 Jubilee in Rome, Ludwisburg Fest Spiele (Germany) and The Abu Gosh Vocal Festival (Israel).
