The Ensemble
Musica Reservata de Barcelona was founded at the beginning of the 1990s and has had a steady concert schedule ever since. Its performances of Spanish Renaissance polyphony were well received at an early stage and in 1995 the group placed first at Spain's National Competition for Young Musicians, which took place in Vigo. It now performs regularly at some of Europe's most respected venues and festivals.
The group has enjoyed a most productive and ongoing collaboration with Peter Phillips, the director of The Tallis Scholars. This first came about at Granada's International festival of Music and Dance, celebrating the quatercentenary of the death of Francisco Guerrero, where they presented two recitals and Spanish National Radio made a live recording as their third compact disc This collaboration was renewed in 2000 at the Auditori in Barcelona as part of the Auditori XXI season. Notable subsequent appearances include The Daroca Festival (2000), Festival Internacional de Música de Tecla Española, (FIMTE) 2000, 2002 and 2004. Festival de Músicas Religiosas de Girona (2000 and 2001), Khumo Chamber Festival (Finland 2002), Festival de Verano de Ciutadella de Menorca y Mahón (2002 and 2003). In spring 2004 as guests of The Polish Composers' Association the group performed in Warsaw's Royal Castle.
The group's first recording, in 1996, arose from its first prize at Spain's National Competition for Young Musicians the previous year and was devoted to the Sevillian school of polyphony. Its second recording, under the direction of Bruno Turner, was on the La Mà de Guido record label.
