The Ensemble
Nova Lux is a stable, professional vocal ensemble, specialising in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music "from Spain and Spanish-America", formed by the Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona in 2006. The ensemble gave its first concert at the Marcelino Botín Foundation on 6 March.
Despite its recent creation, the ensemble has already performed at important festivals including the Palma de Majorca Early-Music Festival, La Mancha International Music Festival, Málaga Early-Music Festival, the Comunidad de Madrid's Summer Classics Festival and the Estella Early-Music Week, among others.
During its inaugural year the ensemble performed a program of Marian works by Francisco Guerrero (1528-1599), a program of Ensaladas by Mateo Flecha "el viejo" (1481-1553) and "el joven" (1530-1604), Joan Brudieu (1520-1591) and Bartomeu Cárceres (ca. 1550 fl.), and gave the premiere of a double program of works by Juan Francés de Iribarren (1698-1767).
Nova Lux's first recording was Il primo libro de Madrigali by Mateo Flecha "el joven" (1530-1604) on the Arsis label. The ensemble's second recording, a double CD of Psalms and other Villancicos and Christmas Songs was put out by RTVE Música. This recording was the result of the work of the musicological research staff set up by the Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona to bring previously-unpublished music to light, the process culminating in the recording and publications of the scores.
The Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona is sponsored by the Pamplona City Council, and receives the financial support of the Diario de Navarra and Caja Navarra Foundation.
