Grup Instrumental de Valencia

The Ensemble

Grup Instrumental de València made its first public appearance in 1991. During its career it has tackled some of contemporary music's classics: Stockhausen, Webern, Donatoni, Boulez, Takemitsu, Ligeti, Xenakis, Schöenberg, Stravinsky, de Pablo, Halffter, Marco, etc.

Jean Pierre Dupuy, Francisco Perales, José Ramón Encinar, Carles Santos, Manuel Galduf and Joan Cerveró, its musical director since 1994 are just some of the figures that have conducted Grup Instrumental.

Grup Instrumental has carried out stage and ballet productions with some of Spain's most important companies: M. de Falla's El Retablo de Maese Pedro, La miel es más dulce que la sangre ("Honey is sweeter than blood" based around Federico Garcia Lorca) and Stravinsky's The soldier's tale. These productions have been taken to some of new music's most important forums in Spain, Italy, France, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina and Venezuela. In 2002, together with Espai Moma (Valencia) and IVM (The Valencian Institute of Music) it undertook a chamber version of Mozart's opera Cosí fan tutte, an experience it repeated in 2004 with Don Giovanni. The Grup are continually on the look out for new works to take responsibility for and premiere, which can later become part of its repertoire and so be regularly performed in concerts and on tours.

It routinely collaborates with Festival ENSEMS (Valencia's Festival of Contemporary Music) and Alicante's International festival of Contemporary Music and regularly participates in the chamber music programming of Valencia's Palau de la Música.

Grup Instrumental is subsidized by the Ministerio de Cultura-Dirección General de Cooperación y Comunicación Cultural and sponsored by the Generalitat Valenciana-Institut Valencià de la Música. It was awarded the National Music Prize 2005 in the performance category.
