Los Comediantes del Arte

The Ensemble

The company began its activity in March 2000 thanks to the initiative of Pillar Montoya, a harpsichordist and performer of historical dance. At this time in Spain there was a marked scarcity of companies able to put on Renaissance or baroque performances. Due to the magnitude of such a project, and after two years painstaking study and research into the music, choreography and iconography of the period, their debut took place in September 2002. This was Amor y Desamor, performed in Zaragoza, which found great favour with audience and press alike. Since then Los Comediantes del Arte have taken part in important cultural events. Worthy of note are their appearance in "Salamanca 2002 European Capital of Culture" with their programme Soirée d'Appartement, a compilation of French baroque music and dance. Their programme Mudanzas y Meneos celebrated the quatercentenary of the publication of Don Quixote. They participated in Luigi Boccherini: un italiano en Madrid, a concert paying homage to that brilliant composer on the bicentenary of his death, and have presented The Marriage of Music and Dance, a journey across three centuries of some of Europe's most significant choreographic displays.

Amongst their most immediate projects are performances at the II Zaragoza Festival of Sacred Music with the programme Esplendor en las Catedrales Europeas a finales del 1600 and Monteverdi's Orfeo, marking the quatercentenary of its premiere as part of the XII International Festival of Early Music at Solsona".
